How are Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® selected?

Super Lawyers® uses a patented multiphase selection process, including nominations, independent research and peer evaluations. Lawyers enter the candidate pool by one of 4 ways – by a managing partner survey, nomination by other lawyers, third party feedback, or identification by Super Lawyers® themselves.

Step two in the selection process is independent research and the evaluation is based on 12 indicators of professional legal achievement and recognition by peers. Those indicators are:

  • Verdicts/Settlements
  • Transactions
  • Representative Clients
  • Legal Experience
  • Legal Honors and Awards
  • Special licenses or legal certifications
  • Standing within the law firm
  • Bar Association or professional activity
  • Legal Pro Bono work and community service
  • Lectures and legal writings
  • Education and employment background
  • Other outstanding legal services/achievements

Step 3 involves the candidates with the highest total number of points from steps 1 and 2 which serve on a blue ribbon panel. These panelists then evaluate other candidates within their primary practice area.

Step 4 is the final selection. A representative number of top attorneys in PA from small, medium and large size law firms are selected. The Super Lawyers list recognizes no more than 5 percent of attorneys in each state. The Rising Stars list recognizes no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state. To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger, or in practice for 10 years or less.

Judith Algeo honored by Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania

High Swartz Family Law Attorney Judith Algeo was honored on May 19, 2022 by LASP: Legal Aid of Southeastern PA as a “sustainer of Legal Aid for the last 20 years”. The anniversary event, LASP 20+ Fête for Justice: 4 Freedoms, 4 Counties, 4 Justice! was held at Normandy Farm in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania and honored 40+ of the most influential Legal Aid attorneys and members.

Judith has been a member of the LASP Board since 2008 and was the Board president from 2018-2020. The goal of Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania has always been to provide quality legal representation to low-income and vulnerable people in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties. In 2001, the 4 separate programs from those counties join forces to create LASP.

The Keynote Speaker at the event was sociologist Dr. Reuben Jonathan Miller, author of Halfway Home: Race, Punishment and the Afterlife of Mass Incarceration. They also welcomed Trapeta B. Mayson, Poet Laureate of Philadelphia from 2020-21, as Fête for Justice Poet. The event was a reunion of sorts that brought together many influential members of LASP’s past and present.

Brianna Teicher Joins the Firm as Business Law Clerk

The firm is pleased to announce the addition of Montgomery County Law Clerk Brianna Teicher to its Norristown law office.

A recent graduate of Drexel University’s Kline School of Law, Brianna Teicher will support the firm’s business practice by researching and drafting legal documents. Brie has the fortunate opportunity to gain valuable legal experience, even before taking her bar exam this summer.

“Having the opportunity to join an established and respected law firm like High Swartz will give me important experience and insight. And working with and learning from talented business attorneys like Don Petrille, Joel Rosen, and Rich Sokorai is something many recent law grads could only hope for.”

Brie Teicher

Brianna grew up in Glen Rock, a small town in Bergen County New Jersey, about an hour’s drive from New York City. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Florida for her business undergrad. Brianna was born in Florida, so she was lucky enough to take advantage of in-state tuition for college. For law school, she was interested in coming back up the east coast and settling in Philadelphia.

What attracted Brianna to High Swartz was its close-knit culture and synergy. “It really feels like everyone is on the same team”, says Brie. With her business concentration at law school, Brianna hopes to be an asset to the firm’s practice area.

Brie is passionate about social justice and civil rights, and believes that every person has the right to a fair and just life. She looks forward to contributing to the meaningful non-profit work High Swartz is doing in the community. In her self-proclaimed “extremely minimal” free time, Briana likes to cook, paint, and assist with pro bono legal work at Episcopal Legal Aid. She currently lives in Philadelphia with her cat, Jimmy.
